Jigyasa gets a new face



Ashwini Kalsekar quits Kasamh Se, Jaya Bhattacharya replaces her in the show

Ashwini Kalsekar aka Jigyasa in Kasamh Se has quit the show. Apparently the actress refused to play a grandmother, which led to an argument with the production team, resulting in her ouster. The character will henceforth be played by actress Jaya Bhattacharya.

A source on the sets says, "According to the plot, Ashwini was required to play a grandmother. But Ashwini didn't want to play an elderly character. She even had a meeting with the creative department but nothing positive came out of the discussion. Ashwini was given an ultimatum that if she didn't want to play the character, she would have to leave."

When contacted, Ashwini confirmed the news of her being out of Kasamh Se. She said, "It is true that I am not doing Kasamh Se any more. The script needed Jigyasa as an elderly character which I refused to play. I think it is fair for any actor to have his/her reservations about certain roles. And like any other producer, Ekta too did not compromise on the script. So I had no option but to leave."

While Jaya Bhattacharya was too busy to comment on the issue, Nivedita Basu, deputy creative director, Balaji Telefilms, said, "Ashwini told me long ago that she wanted to leave Kasamh Se. But at that time, she wanted to go to London for some personal work."

When asked if playing a grandmother was an issue with Ashwini, Nivedita added, "Yes, Ashwini did have inhibitions about playing a grandmother. So we tried to focus more on the thriller aspect, to which she agreed. But perhaps she was not happy with how her character was shaping up. So we decided to rope in Jaya Bhattacharya instead. I am sure Jaya will add her own style to the character and make it a hit too."
